Dear MXTX Rare Pair Creator

Welcome to my letter! I am really excited for this exchange and thrilled to see what you come up with! I'm not very good at writing these letters (or coming up with prompts, and I especially tend to ramble so please bear with me) but I'm super excited for anything and everything you come up with, because more fanworks are always awesome!

These prompts are only here to give you some ideas if you need them, so please feel free to ignore them if you have your own! I just want to see more fanworks for the pairs I like! <3

Worldbuilding. Stories that explore any kind of aspects of the setting,or fill in holes that canon hinted at but left open to interpretation. All the Missing scene fics!
Exploring character dynamics and relationships. A lot of the fun with Rare Pairs especially for me is how would these two characters, who may or may not have exchanged a single word in canon, click together. (I generally prefer this over romance)
Slow burn romances.! First comes trust, then comes love...
Angst & H/C – I don’t really like straight up whump, but I do like darker fics, or characters showing a little bit of weakness or alternatively trying their hardest not to show any weakness in front of their closest allies. Basically more on the Comfort side of H/C. Sickfic, Injuries, Phobias, Recovery, Grief/Mourning Themes – all of that is very loved!
Time Travel. There's just a special place in my heart for time travel & time loop stories!
Canon Divergence AUs! So many different ways a story could have gone…
Dreamworlds! Trapped in a dream/nightmare/it's a wonderful life type scenario! Rescue fic where Character A has to go into Character B's mind to save them are wonderful. 'For The Man Who Has Everything'-esque plots are also amazing!

Jīn Zǐxuān & Niè Huáisāng

Sangxuan my beloved! I prefer friendship for these two (JZX deserves all the friends!) but I don’t mind if it gets shippy. I think these two have a very interesting potential dynamic. They’re both very spoiled young masters with very refined tastes. Only while NHS is weak physically but secretly very sharp, JZX is a good cultivator but not very politically oriented. I'd love to see that kind of thing come into play!

Jīn Zǐxuān & Lán Zhàn | Lán Wàngjī & Niè Huáisāng

The Spoiled Brat Trio! These three are the most spoiled young masters of their generation, and that means they should hang out! A lot of my feelings about JZX & NHS apply here too, but I think the addition of Lan Wangji makes it even more fun! For one, JZX gets another friend! For another, he & JZX are both socially awkward which somehow makes NHS the most socially responsible of the three. Pity everyone!

Lán Huàn | Lán Xīchén/Niè Huáisāng

Xisang is probably my OTP in this fandom! I really love them a lot – their shared history, their connection through NMJ, the entire mess that is revenge and post-canon… I think they just fit so well together. NHS for me pairs well with pure-hearted people, meanwhile LXC could use someone who doesn’t have him on an unreachable pedestal. Also this ship has the potential to be very sad and I like sad XD

I am cool with either romantic or platonic/familial interactions for these two! All Xisang interaction is very loved! (I did not have room to also nominate LXC & NHS ^^")

Ship Specific DNW: If post-canon, please no one-sided NHS having to be the one to apologize to LXC or LXC openly hating NHS.

Mèng Yáo | Jīn Guāngyáo/Wēn Qíng

I feel like this ship has a lot of really interesting potential! Proud, smart Wen Qing vs. shrewd Meng Yao! I would love to see something with the two of them interacting while MY is with the Wen Sect. I’d love to see something with them as a capable power couple or a darker take of them trying to outdo each other, betrayals, suspicions.

Some prompts:

WRH betroths Meng Yao to Wen Qing. Maybe they even get married?
WRH dies during Sunshot and WQ & MY are left running the sect (maybe they have to cover up his death? Could see this as either a comedy or a serious take!)
WQ helping MY find his footing in the Wen Sect and making sure no one disrespects him
MY learning how to make medicine from her
MY discovers WQ’s Core Transfer theory? Does he tell WRH? Steal it for himsef??
Post-war Jin Guangyao encounters WQ in Lanling

Wēn Qíng & Wēn Ruòhán

Uncle and Niece! We know from the novel that Wen Qing held a very respected position in the Wen sect and often accompanied her uncle to conferences. I’d love to see more of their relationship and Wen Qing at the height of her power. I would also like to see a Wen Qing with a lot of pride as a member of the Wen sect, even if she doesn’t agree with its current actions. They were a huge accomplished sect before it all fell apart. Their founder was also the founder of the current clan based sects. There’s a lot of history to explore!

I would kind of prefer what little we know of their novel relationship for this (especially on WQ’s side), but CQL/Frankencanon is still very welcome!

WQ taking some advantage of the power given her as WRH’s favorite niece (maybe for WN’s benefit if not her own?)
WQ & WRH after WX & WC’s deaths. Maybe WQ gets named the new heir to the sect? Maybe WRH finds out that she’d sheltered the Jiang and… doesn’t care all that much?

TGCF

Péi Míng & Shī Qīngxuán

Péi Míng/Shī Qīngxuán

Peixuan my beloved! These are the two characters I got attached to most while reading TGCF and I really love their interactions. They are sitcom archnemeses! Any time they are on page together, SQX is mouthing off and picking fights and while it's pretty deserved, it is also absolutely hilarious. And even more fun is that despite many flaws Pei Ming is one of the more noble officials out there, is actually a really good friend to those he cares about and seems to be something of SQX's designated ~~babysitter~~ guardian when SWD is not around. I love it a lot.

I’m cool with either a romantic or platonic/familial pair for these two. Any and all Peixuan interaction is very loved!

Some prompt ideas:

During his final moments, SWD tells SQX that Pei Ming would take care of him. It didn't happen but I want it to. Canon divergence for He Xuan leaving SQX behind and letting Pei Ming take him back with him instead of dumping him at the capital?
General Ming Guang and the Wind Goddess! What sorts of stories are mortals writing about them? How do they react?
Pei Ming helping SQX cover something up from SWD
Looking out for the other while injured. Maybe something related to the Reverend of Empty Words? First meetings?
Pei Ming teaching SQX to fight with a sword (during the Banyue arc, SQX is mentioned to have one)
Pei Ming looking out for SQX post-canon. Mourning SWD together. Helping SQX figure out a path in life.
The moment Pei Ming stops seeing SQX as just his best friend's spoiled kid brother
SQX helping PM spy on/matchmake Pei Xiu & Ban Yue
Or just 800 years of PM & SQX being sitcom archnemeses who secretly care for each other. It's a great relationship.

Shi Qingxuan & Shi Wudu

Finding out certain spoilers about a certain arc was what convinced me to read TGCF. I was not disappointed, and I have all the tragic sibling feels from these two. Shi Wudu is not a good person... but he is an older brother who would do anything to keep his younger brother safe. And considering said younger brother is one of the sweetest kindest people out there... can you blame him? Can you really, really blame him? ~~(yes, absolutely, but I can't hate him for it)~~

For the Shi brothers, I would love seeing more of that protective side of Shi Wudu's (for better or worse). I just want them to love each other and always put each other first (for better or worse).

Some prompt ideas:

Taking care of each other when they’re young. Dealing with scheming relatives?
Comforting SQX after a dealing with the Reverend of Empty Words. Desperately looking for a way to get rid of it.
SWD’s early days in the Heavenly Court. He wasn’t always the God of Wealth!
Getting the lockets that tell them when the other is in pain! Or just showering SQX with expensive gifts in general. Making up for a crappy childhood!
Or just anything with SWD being possessive/overprotective. Thinking he knows best for SQX and keeping him close and dependent even after SQX is freed from the Reverend’s curse. Maybe exploring some codependency issues?
Or for something really dark, what if they had taken Option 1? SQX is given an awful fate, and SWD has no divinity and a lot of enemies .... (imo Option 1 was the crueler one. I really wonder if that was the intended revenge)
Or AU where SWD survives the Black Water arc and joins up with Jun Wu together with Ling Wen
For something lighter, the novel mentions that the two of them occasionally gather up their stories and shudder at the legends the mortals write about them. Would love to see what sort of stories they're finding. The wilder the better!
SQX trying to break up the Three Tumors and failing miserably

Quán Yīzhēn & Shī Qīngxuán

I was rereading the Black Water arc recently for some characterization reference, and noticed that Quan Yizhen calls Shi Qingxuan by first name! I think SQX is the only character who gets that treatment from him. So I am very invested in this friendship now! They are two of the nicest officials in Heaven, so it makes sense for them to get along and be friends! Let them be cute friends!

MDZS/TGCF XOVER

Niè Míngjué/Péi Míng

I’ll admit I have never really considered this ship, but I saw it in the nominations and I like the idea a lot!! :D I really like the idea of TGCF & MDZS existing in the same verse and the mdzs characters having shrines to the tgcf gods…. And especially Pei Ming, the Martial God of the North, being very popular in Qinghe.

Some prompts:

NMJ being compared to Pei Ming for his battle prowess
And his love life being speculated on much to his annoyance
NMJ vs. Pei Ming in some kind of competition (kind of like how in Greek Myths humans go up against Gods… though here it could potentially end well?)
Pei Ming & NMJ training together

Maybe Pei Ming appears to keep an eye on him & NHS after their father dies because of this?
